Fashion Power: Knotting Narratives [Read more]

In celebration of "African Feminism," the first chapter of the landmark exhibition "Ghanaian Fashion” at the Harn Museum, MFA Candidate and Ghanaian artist Benedicta Opoku-Mensah led students through a collaborative macramé handbag creation. Paired with the excellent garments by Aisha Ayensu, these handbags make the perfect complement to explore the ways in which Benedicta thinks about feminism functions in Ghana. This workshop took place at the Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville Florida on February 22, 2025.

Macrame for Creative Expressions [Read more]

This hands-on workshop introduced participants to the art of macramé, focusing on its contemporary applications as a tool for creative expression and mindful making. Participants learnt basic knotting techniques like square knots, half hitch knots and ark’s head knots while exploring how to create functional and decorative textile pieces like plant hangers and side bags among others. The focus of this workshop was on material exploration, individual creativity and building confidence through craft. Open to all skill levels, this course took place at Morean Art Center at St. Petersburg, July 12th 2025.

Macrame for WARP [Read more]

As part of my Lead Teaching Assistant duties for the course Workshop for Art Research and Practice, I designed and facilitated a macramé workshop that introduced students to fiber-based making as a tool for self-expression. The workshop emphasized process over product, encouraging students to explore knotting as both a material and conceptual language. This took place at WARPHAUS, University of Florida on September 22nd 2025.
